These terms apply to your use of figures.lk (“the site”), including its pages, charts, downloads and open data API. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. What this site is
figures.lk is a free, public, non-commercial information service. It brings together Sri Lankan economic and development statistics from 2000 onwards and explains them in plain language, to help people get a broad idea of how the country is doing. It is an educational aid. It is not an official statistical publication.
2. How the data is collected: AI-assisted
The figures are gathered from public sources, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Department of Census and Statistics, the Ministry of Finance, the Colombo Stock Exchange, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, United Nations agencies and reputable news reports quoting them. Much of this collection, checking, summarising and translating is done with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, under human supervision.
AI-assisted collection can introduce mistakes that are not always caught, for example:
- a wrong or mistyped number, or a figure for the wrong month, quarter or year;
- a wrong unit or scale (millions vs billions, percent vs percentage points);
- a series that mixes definitions (for example two different price indices);
- figures that are out of date, provisional, or later revised by the source;
- inaccurate explanations, ratings or translations.
3. Not a source of truth
Please do not treat this site as an authoritative or official source. Use it to get a general picture, then confirm any figure with the original publisher before you rely on it, quote it, publish it or make a decision based on it. Most pages link to the original source (“View source”), and the தரவு மூலங்கள் page lists where the data comes from. When you cite a number, cite the original publisher, not figures.lk.
4. No advice
Nothing on the site is financial, investment, economic, legal, tax, policy or other professional advice. The Good / Watch / Concern ratings are simple editorial judgements against indicative thresholds. The “simple statistical trend” lines are mechanical extrapolations, not predictions. Official projections are shown as published by their authors and may be wrong. Seek qualified advice before acting.
5. Translations
Sinhala and Tamil text is largely machine-assisted and is being reviewed. Some text is marked as awaiting review. Where versions differ, the English version applies.
6. No warranty
The site and its data are provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, timeliness, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. We may correct, change, remove or stop publishing any content, indicator or feature at any time without notice.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, figures.lk and the people who operate it are not liable for any loss or damage, direct or indirect, arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its data. This includes financial loss, loss of opportunity and decisions made using the information.
8. Reusing the data
You may view, download and reuse figures from the site and the API, provided that you credit the original source (and, if you wish, figures.lk), follow the original publisher’s own licence and terms, and do not present the figures as official or as endorsed by us or by the original publisher. The site’s own text, design and logo may not be reused to imply an official or affiliated service.
9. Acceptable use
Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, probe or gain unauthorised access to the site, its API or its infrastructure. Automated access must respect the API rate limits. We may block traffic that does not.
10. Independence
figures.lk is independent. It is not affiliated with, operated by or endorsed by the Government of Sri Lanka, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Department of Census and Statistics or any other source organisation. Their names are used only to identify where data comes from.
11. Links to other sites
Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices.
12. Privacy
How we handle data about visitors is explained in the தனியுரிமை அறிவிப்பு.
13. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and continued use means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
