Privacy notice
This notice explains what information figures.lk (“we”, “the site”) collects when you visit, why, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short because we collect very little.
1. The short version
- There are no accounts, sign-ups, forms or payments. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It uses cookies.
- We store two small preferences in your browser: your language and your light/dark theme.
- Our hosting and security providers see technical data such as your IP address, as every website’s do.
- We do not sell or rent any data, and we do not use it for advertising.
2. Information collected
Analytics (Google Analytics 4, provided by Google). When you load a page, Google Analytics
records things like the pages you view, how you arrived (for example a search engine or a link), your
approximate location (country or city, derived from your IP address), your device type, browser and
screen size, and the time of the visit. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<id>
that can last up to two years, so repeat visits can be counted. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not
log or store full IP addresses. We see this information only as totals and trends, not as identifiable
individuals.
Preferences in your browser. A lang cookie remembers your chosen language
(Sinhala, English or Tamil) for up to one year. A lp-theme value in your browser’s local
storage remembers light or dark mode. Neither is sent to anyone else, and they are needed for the site to
remember your choice.
Technical and security logs. Like any website, the services that deliver it process your IP address, browser details and the addresses of pages requested, to deliver pages, defend against attacks and abuse (for example rate limiting), and fix faults. Our own application logs record which page was requested and whether it worked, not who you are.
Content delivery. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts and code libraries from the jsDelivr network. Those services receive your IP address when your browser fetches the files.
3. Who processes it
- Google: Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google Fonts.
- Cloudflare: content delivery network and security in front of the site.
- Render: application hosting.
- Supabase: database hosting. It stores only the published statistics, not visitor data.
- jsDelivr: delivery of open-source code libraries.
These providers may process data on servers outside Sri Lanka, under their own privacy policies and safeguards.
4. Why we use it
We use this limited information to run the site securely, understand which indicators and explanations people find useful, and improve the service. We process it under the Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, of Sri Lanka, on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and improving a free public information service.
5. Your choices
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them; it just forgets your language and theme.
- Opt out of Google Analytics on every site with Google’s browser add-on, or use a browser or extension that blocks trackers.
- Learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com.
6. Your rights
Under Sri Lanka’s data protection law you may ask to access, correct or erase personal data about you, withdraw consent, or object to processing. Because we do not hold names or contact details, most requests about analytics data are handled by Google through the tools above. You can also contact us, and you may complain to the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
7. Retention
Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Analytics account (no longer than 14 months for detailed event data). Hosting and security logs are kept by the providers for their standard periods, usually days to weeks.
8. Children
The site is suitable for students and the general public. It does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
9. Changes
We will update this notice if what we collect changes; the date above shows the latest version. See also our Terms of use.
